The concept for Figure Four’s initial backpack, the Omega Pack, began long before Figure Four was founded. Living in Los Angeles and working as a satellite engineer, the founder Steven Demsky spent most of his free time climbing, mountaineering, hiking, and canyoneering. During a canyoneering adventure he became highly annoyed by how poorly his backpack fit while wearing a climbing harness. After relocating to Vancouver, WA to pursue a closer connection to his hobbies, he began to study the backpack industry and develop Figure Four’s Omega Pack, a unique pack design that allows the climbing harness to be combined with the backpack hip belt, providing an excellent fitting backpack with or without a climbing harness. With extreme attention to design detail, the development phase for the Omega Pack lasted over 3 years and included design and testing of 11 different prototypes. This long learning process resulted in Figure Four’s initial production backpack, the Omega Pack. The Omega Pack is a highly innovative backpack that pushes the envelope of mountaineering backpack design and marked the beginning of Figure Four in 2008.
Now Steve along with new testers and developers have used the same design philosophies of extreme attention to design detail and testing to develop Figure Four’s new backpacks. Figure Four strives to create innovative backpack designs and include useful features while still maintaining a light mountaineering backpack. This is Figure Four’s vision and passion.
